Waste is a resource. Several by-products of agro-industry contain important classes of bioactive molecules (polyphenols, carotenoids, alpha-hydroxy acids and many others) useful in cosmetics. In particular, from the peels of some vegetables, thanks to the latest research in biotechnology, enzymatic bioliquefacts have been developed, innovative water-based active ingredients obtained without the use of any aggressive chemical solvents or oils, but only through natural enzymes. Compared to the more widely used 'plant extracts', bioliquefacts are low molecular weight, more bioavailable and rapidly effective active ingredients. This results in high quality formulations with proven efficacy.
